o THE INVESTMENT CODE ACT, CAP 92.
o AMONG OTHERS
 All foreign nationals desirous to work in Uganda are required by law to acquire work permit in respect to want they intend to do.
 We have different classes of work permits in Uganda namely.
 CLASS A (GOVERNMENT & DIPLOMATIC SERVICE) Applicants should b contracted for service in the Government of Uganda or diplomats accredited for service in Uganda.
 CLASS A2 (GOVERNMENT CONTRACTORS) Applicants should be on Government contracts, including persons serving in Government tertiary institutions.
 CLASS B (INVESTMENT IN AGRICULTURE) Applicants should be intending to invest in the business of agriculture or animal husbandry.
 CLASS C (MINING) Applicants should be intending to invest in the business of prospecting for minerals or mining in Uganda
 CLASS D (BUSINESS AND TRADE) Applicants should intending to carry on the business or trade in Uganda
 CLASS E (MANUFACTURERS) Applicants should be persons intending to engage in manufacturing business in Uganda
 CLASS F (PROFESSIONALS) Applicants should be members of prescribed professionals intending to practice such profession in Uganda
 CLASS G1 (VOLUNTEERS, NGO WORKERS, and MISSIONARIES) AND CLASS G2 (EMPLOYEES) Applicants should be intending to work as employees whether for gain or not in Uganda, Applicants under this category can only enter Uganda after grant and payment of their work permits.
THE PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING EACH CATEGORY / CLASS OF ENTRY/WORK PERMITS IN UGANDA IS AS FOLLOWS;
1. CLASS A (GOVERNMENT & DIPLOMATIC SERVICE)

2. PROCEDURE FOR ACQIRING CLASS A2 (GOVERNMENT CONTRACTORS) ENTRY/ WORK PERMITS IN UGANDA
• Pick and Fill Entry / work permit form accordingly
• make photocopies of the passport of the applicant
• obtain 2 passport size photos
• obtain Covering letter from the organization or company
• obtain Covering letter from the line ministry
• obtain Interpol letter of criminal record from home country
• certify Academic qualifications for professionals
• Attach all these documents on your application and have it assessed at the bank you will be directed to.
• Pay as per the assessment and attach your payment receipt on your application.
• Thereafter submit the complete application at ministry of internal affairs.
• You will be told when to check.
• Your application will be reviewed wherein it may be granted or accepted.
• When it is accepted you pass by on the day you were told to check/
• You will then submit your passport for indicating in there your work permit detail after which you will collect it.
3. PROCEDURE FOR ACQIRIN CLASS B (INVESTMENT IN AGRICULTURE) ENTRY/ WORK PERMIT IN UGANDA
one may obtain this work permit as follows:
• Pick and Fill Entry / work permit form accordingly
• obtain2 passport size photos
• Make Photocopies of your passport
• Obtain Covering letter from company
• Obtain Land title
• Obtain Uganda Investment Authority License
• Obtain Letter from Ministry of Agriculture regarding intended agriculture venture
• Obtain Recommendation from Local council’s offices or RDC’s office
• Make Work plan / Feasibility study of the project undertaken
• Execute Security bond
• Obtain certificate of no criminal record/good conduct from Interpol home country
• Attach all these documents on your application and have it assessed at the bank you will be directed to.
• Pay as per the assessment and attach your payment receipt on your application.
• Thereafter submit the complete application at ministry of internal affairs.
• You will be told when to check.
• Your application will be reviewed wherein it may be granted or accepted.
• When it is accepted you pass by on the day you were told to check/
• You will then submit your passport for indicating in there your work permit detail after which you will collect it
4. PROCEDURE FOR ACQUIRING CLASS C (MINING) WORK PERMIT IN UGANDA
• Pick and Fill Entry / wok permit form accordingly
• Make Photocopies of your passport
• 2 passport size photos
• Make or obtain Covering letter from company
• Obtain License from Ministry of Natural Resources
• Obtain certified Articles and memorandum of Association of the company
• Obtain Supportive letter from Ministry of Natural Resources
• Execute Security bond
• Obtain Uganda Investment Authority License
• Obtain certificate of no criminal record/good conduct from Interpol home country
• Attach all these documents on your application and have it assessed at the bank you will be directed to.
• Pay as per the assessment and attach your payment receipt on your application.
• Thereafter submit the complete application at ministry of internal affairs.
• You will be told when to check.
• Your application will be reviewed wherein it may be granted or accepted.
• When it is accepted you pass by on the day you were told to check/
• You will then submit your passport for indicating in there your work permit detail after which you will collect it

5. PROCEDURE FOR AQUIRING CLASS D (BUSINESS AND TRADE) WORK PERMIT IN UGANDA
• Pick and Fill work permit form accordingly
• Prepare Covering letter from company
• Get 2 passport size photos
• Make Photocopies of the applicant passport
• Obtain Company’s bank statement
• Obtain Uganda Investment Authority license ( where applicable )
• Have Articles and memorandum of association of the company
• Have Certificate of incorporation
• Obtain Income tax clearance
• Obtain Trading license from local authority
• Banking of Uganda Certificate of remittance of US $ 100,000
• Execute security bond
• Obtain certificate of no criminal record/good conduct from Interpol home country
• Attach all these documents on your application and have it assessed at the bank you will be directed to.
• Pay as per the assessment and attach your payment receipt on your application.
• Thereafter submit the complete application at ministry of internal affairs.
• You will be told when to check.
• Your application will be reviewed wherein it may be granted or ececepted.
• When it is accepted you pass by on the day you were told to check/
• You will then submit your passport for indicating in there your work permit detail after which you will collect it

 

6. PROCEDURE FOR AQUIRING CLASS E (MANUFACTURERS) ENTRY/WORK PERMIT IN UGANDA
• Pick and Fill work permit form accordingly
• Prepare Covering letter from company
• Get 2 passport size photos
• Make Photocopies of the applicant passport
• Obtain Company’s bank statement
• Obtain Uganda Investment Authority license ( where applicable )
• Have Articles and memorandum of association of the company
• Have Certificate of incorporation
• Obtain Income tax clearance
• Obtain Trading license from local authority
• Banking of Uganda Certificate of remittance of US $ 100,000
• Execute security bond
• Obtain certificate of no criminal record/good conduct from Interpol home country
• Attach all these documents on your application and have it assessed at the bank you will be directed to.
• Pay as per the assessment and attach your payment receipt on your application.
• Thereafter submit the complete application at ministry of internal affairs.
• You will be told when to check.
• Your application will be reviewed wherein it may be granted or ececepted.
• When it is accepted you pass by on the day you were told to check/
• You will then submit your passport for indicating in there your work permit detail after which you will collect it

7. PROCEDURE FOR AQUIRING CLASS F (PROFESSIONALS) ENTRY/PERMIT IN UGANDA
• Pick and Fill work permit form accordingly
• Obtain 2 passport size photos
• Make Photocopies of passport
• Prepare Covering letter
• Have your Qualifications documents
• Have Registration with the relevant professional agency e.g. Association of medical Practitioners
• Obtain Company documents
• Obtain certificate of no criminal record/good conduct from Interpol home country
• Attach all these documents on your application and have it assessed at the bank you will be directed to.
• Pay as per the assessment and attach your payment receipt on your application.
• Thereafter submit the complete application at ministry of internal affairs.
• You will be told when to check.
• Your application will be reviewed wherein it may be granted or ececepted.
• When it is accepted you pass by on the day you were told to check/
• You will then submit your passport for indicating in there your work permit detail after which you will collect it

8. PROCEDURE FOR ACQUIRING (VOLUNTEERS, NGO WORKERS, and MISSIONARIES) WORK PERMIT IN UGANDA
Application Requirements:
• Pick and Fill work permit form
• Obtain 2 passport size photos of the applicant
• Make a Copy of passport
• Make a Copy of NGO certificate where you intend to work for
• Obtain Criminal record report or Interpol certificate of good conduct from home country
• Obtain Covering letter from institution / NGO you intend to work for
• Make your own Covering letter
• Have Appointment letter
• Have your Qualifications papers
• Attach all these documents on your application and have it assessed at the bank you will be directed to.
• Pay as per the assessment and attach your payment receipt on your application.
• Thereafter submit the complete application at ministry of internal affairs.
• You will be told when to check.
• Your application will be reviewed wherein it may be granted or ececepted.
• When it is accepted you pass by on the day you were told to check/
• You will then submit your passport for indicating in there your work permit detail after which you will collect it
9. PROCEDURE OF ACQUIRING CLASS G2 (EMPLOYEES) WORK PERMIT IN UGANDA
• Pick and Fill work permit form
• Obtain 2 passport size photos
• Obtain Photocopies of passport of the applicant
• Have your Academic qualifications
• Obtain Appointment letter
• obtain Covering letter from company
• have Proof of failure to employ a Ugandan
• show Training opportunities for Ugandans
• obtain Investment letter
• obtain Income tax clearance
• have Articles and memorandum of association of the company
• obtain Trading license
• execute Security bond
• have Company’s Bank statement
• have Certificate of incorporation
• Attach all these documents on your application and have it assessed at the bank you will be directed to.
• Pay as per the assessment and attach your payment receipt on your application.
• Thereafter submit the complete application at ministry of internal affairs.
• You will be told when to check.
• Your application will be reviewed wherein it may be granted or accepted.
• When it is accepted you pass by on the day you were told to check/
• You will then submit your passport for indicating in there your work permit detail after which you will collect it.
